Beschreibung
This monograph covers many aspects of labour law, industrial relations and social security regulations in Germany. The reunification of East and West Germany has brought into stark focus the inherent differences between the former states, and ironically, the marked contrasts which continue to dominate German life despite the political transformation. The western part of Germany continues to prosper whilst its eastern counterpart lags far behind. It is these developments and contrasts, which have a tremendous effect upon German labour law and industrial relations, that will be closely examined within this book. The book is divided into three major parts: an introduction, the individual employment relationship, and the collective labour law. Professor Dr. Manfred Weiss has held various academic posts and fellowships. Since 1974 he has been full professor for labour law and civil law, first (from 1974 to 1977) at the University in Hamburg and then (since 1977) at the J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt. He is President of the German Association of Industrial Relations since 1990, member of the executive committee of the International Industrial Relations Association since 1989, and co-editor of several journals.
