This volume is a continuation of the 'History of German Literature from its Beginnings to the Early Modern Age' edited by Joachim Heinzle. For the first time in the history of the subject, this monograph provides a unified and detailed description of German literature in the 14th century. With a view to tracing ongoing traditions and literary innovations as accurately as possible, the structure of the volume is closely modeled on the part-volume on the history of 13th century German literature that has already been published.
